Why is 5th grade in the Middle School at Cannon?

April 2, 2012

Prospective Parents and Students Invited to Visit Cannon School April 12

A fifth grader is a work in progress. That child isn’t a little kid anymore, but he or she isn’t yet a teenager. Charlotte-area parents and their rising fifth-grade children are invited to learn how the distinct developmental needs of fifth graders are given careful consideration at Cannon School.

The school’s “Exploring Middle School” fifth-grade visit and parent informational coffee will take place Thursday, April 12, from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., on Cannon’s Concord campus at 5801 Poplar Tent Road.

As part of the middle school, the fifth grade curriculum and program are thoughtfully designed by faculty who recognize and support the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of the emerging pre-adolescent child.

Rising fifth graders will spend a day with current Cannon fifth graders to experience a day in the life of a Cannon middle school student. Their parents are invited to have coffee and conversation with Head of Middle School Matt Rush, Dean of Students Wendy Benz (grades 5-6) and Cannon faculty from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m.

Families may register at http://www.cannonschool.org/5th.

As a parent of a current 5th grader at Cannon, I can say first-hand that the 5th grade team at Cannon is an incredibly talented and dedicated group of teachers!
