In schools, we spend a great bit of time exploring the most effective ways to measure student progress.

At Cannon School, authentic assessment tools offer our faculty the opportunity to go beyond the standard testing models to try to discern where and how students are growing and developing as thinkers and problem solvers. We recognize that testing students on content is only one piece of the puzzle. We work hard to get to know how students are developing “skills” in other areas — like resilience and the ability to adapt and reflect.

This recent New York Times article asks great questions about the role of failure and character in the development of young people.  No doubt, it is stimulating a great deal of conversation among parents and educators:
